ACADEMIC OUTCOMES OF EMRSs

The Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Shri. Durgadas Uikey informed in Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the State-wise status of sanctioned, operational and at Various stages of Construction of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) is at Annexure I.

9111 teaching & non -teaching staff have already been recruited through ESSE-2023 and examination has been conducted through ESSE-2025 for another batch of 7267 teaching & non -teaching staff for EMRSs across the country.

In the academic year 2025-26, the result in EMRSs is 93.62 % and 87.82 % in class X and XII respectively. 173 schools achieved 100% pass rate in Class X and 92 schools achieved 100% pass rate in Class XII. During the same year, EMRS students qualified in various national-level competitive examinations as under:

To strengthen digital learning in EMRSs, smart classrooms, digital boards, computer labs with internet connectivity, and a dedicated DTH TV have been provided. Eklavya channel provides curriculum-based learning and competitive exam content for Classes 9th to 12th, ensuring continuous access to quality educational resources. At present there are 284 Smart classrooms in EMRSs across the country. An AI-enabled teaching support platform, Medha AI, has been introduced in all functional EMRSs to assist teachers in preparing lesson plans, presentations, assessments, question banks and other teaching-learning resources. Capacity-building programmes are being conducted to train teachers in its effective use.

Eight Centres of Excellence are operational to provide focused mentoring and high-quality coaching to meritorious EMRS students preparing for IIT-JEE and NEET. The Engineering and NEET Admission Bridge Accelerated Learning Engagement (ENABLE) Programme, launched in 2025, provides structured online academic support and coaching for students aspiring to qualify IIT-JEE and NEET. Kaushalya The programme offers a three-year diploma integrating classroom instruction with industrial training for eligible Class XII pass students, thereby enhancing employability and career prospects.

Ministry of Ayush is implementing Poshan Vatikas in EMRSs. Fifty Poshan Vatikas have been established across different EMRSs to promote nutrition awareness, healthy eating habits, and experiential learning among students

As on date, total 71 EMRSs have been sanctioned for the state of Madhya Pradesh and all are functional. The district-wise details of EMRSs in Madhya Pradesh including student enrolment is given at Annexure II.

All new EMRSs having an area of 15 acres, with student capacity of 480 from Classes VI to XII are well equipped with modern design. These include separate Boys’ and Girls’ Hostels, integrated dining and kitchen facilities, quarters for teaching and non-teaching staff, classrooms with modern teaching aids, science and computer laboratories, libraries with diverse learning resources, playgrounds and sports equipment, facilities for extracurricular activities like music, art and sports to preserve local art and culture, smart classrooms for digital education, computer labs with internet access, skill development and vocational training programs on apparel, Automotive, AR/VR, AI, Beauty & Wellness, Agriculture, Electronics, and retail to enhance employability, etc

To strengthen the governance, management and operation of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), various institutional reforms have been taken such as;

  • Establishment of National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) as an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to provide overall policy direction, academic support, monitoring, capacity building, recruitment, standardization of processes and implementation of the EMRS Scheme across the country;
  • State EMRS Societies to oversee the implementation, administration and day-to-day management of EMRSs within their jurisdictions;
  • District Level EMRS Committees, under the Chairmanship of the District Collector/District Magistrates to strengthen local oversight and resolve local implementation issues.
  • Comprehensive operational guidelines and circulars covering academic administration, financial management, procurement, student welfare, health and safety, hostel management, and grievance redressal to ensure uniform standards across all EMRSs.
  • Centralized recruitment mechanism through the EMRS Staff Selection Examination (ESSE) has been instituted to ensure the appointment of qualified and competent teaching and non-teaching personnel across EMRSs.
  • Structured induction programmes, regular in-service training, and continuous capacity-building initiatives to enhance professional competencies and strengthen institutional effectiveness.

These institutional reforms have strengthened accountability, coordination, monitoring and thereby improving overall management of EMRSs.
