For Shri Ashish Kumar Singh of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, pursuing a Ph.D. in Political Science brought substantial financial pressure. Tuition, books, accommodation, internet access and research expenses were difficult for his family to meet. The NFSC fellowship has helped him continue his research with greater financial stability and focus on his academic goals.
Shri Ashish Kumar Singh, 29, has been receiving support under the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) since April 2024.
Before receiving the fellowship, he depended on his family to meet educational and living costs. Limited resources restricted his access to research materials and academic activities, while financial uncertainty made it harder to devote his full attention to doctoral work.
Under NFSC, he reports fellowship and House Rent Allowance of Rs. 44,400 per month for 26 months, along with contingency support. This assistance has helped him purchase books, access online resources, attend seminars and conferences, and meet research-related and day-to-day expenses.
Extending his gratitude, Shri Ashish Kumar Singh said, “The NFSC fellowship has reduced my financial stress and helped me focus on my PhD research.”
The support has reduced the financial burden on his family and strengthened his independence and confidence. With fewer financial pressures, he can dedicate more time to his Ph.D. and prepare for future opportunities in education and public service.
After completing his doctorate, Ashish hopes to join a government institution as an Assistant Professor. He is also interested in competitive examinations, including those conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. His journey shows how fellowship support can help scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds continue higher education and work towards their ambitions.
