MUMBAI, Oct 7 (Reuters) – The Reserve Bank of India raised its benchmark repo rate (INREPO=ECI), by 25 basis points to 5.5% on Wednesday, the first rise in nearly four years, citing mounting inflation concerns and strong economic growth.
The six-member Monetary Policy Committee also shifted its policy stance to “calibrated tightening” from “neutral”.Here is a timeline of changes to India’s benchmark repo rate since June 2000:
