The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing for the launch of GSLV-F17 carrying EOS-05, scheduled for 2:55 AM IST on September 4 from Sriharikota. The mission is particularly significant because EOS-05 is designed to become India’s first imaging satellite operating from a geosynchronous orbit.
Positioned nearly 36,000 km above Earth, the satellite will be able to repeatedly observe large geographical areas. This could strengthen India’s capabilities in weather monitoring, disaster management, agriculture, environmental observation and strategic surveillance.
The mission also marks ISRO’s return to launches after a gap of nearly eight months, making it an important test for India’s space programme.
