Jalandhar to Hoshiarpur via Kathar and Mandial and Hoshiarpur to Jalandhar via Phagwara City and Highway Survey

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India TRAI released its Independent Drive Test ( IDT ) findings for the Punjab Licensed Service Area ( LSA ) covering extensive urban routes during the month of August 2025. The drive tests, conducted under the supervision of TRAI Regional Office , Delhi, were designed to ensure exposure to real-world mobile network performance in various usage environments – urban areas , institutional hotspots , public transport hubs and high – speed corridors.

Between August 5, 2025 , and August 8 , 2025 , TRAI teams conducted extensive tests, including a 198.0 km city drive test , 9 hotspot locations , a 1.3 km walking test , an 84.6 km highway drive test, and inter-operator calling at 1 location. The technologies evaluated included 2G , 3G , 4G , and 5G , reflecting the service experience of users with different handset capabilities. The IDT findings have already been communicated to all relevant telecom service providers (TSPs).

Key parameters evaluated :

Voice Services : Call Setup Success Rate CSSR ) , Dropped Call Rate DCR ) , Call Setup Time , Call Silence Rate , Speech Quality MOS ) , Coverage.

Data services : download upload throughput , latency , jitter , packet drop rate and video streaming delay.

Call Setup Success Rate : Airtel , BSNL , RJIL and VIL have call setup success rate of 99.81 % , 10.29 % , 99.81 % and 98.06 % in auto – selection mode ( 5G/4G / 3G / 2G ) respectively

Drop Call Rate : Drop call rate in auto – selection mode ( 5G/4G / 3G / 2G ) for Airtel , BSNL , RJIL0.00 % , 4.24 % , 0.19 % and 0.00 % respectively.

Performance against key QoS parameters

CSSR : Call Setup Success Rate in percent ) , CST : Call Setup Time in seconds ) , DCR : Dropped Call Rate in percent and MOS : Average Opinion Score.

The evaluation in Jalandhar included high density areas like Model Town , Basti Bawa Khel , Lajpat Nagar , Rama Mandi , Chuharwali , Jandiala etc. and in Hoshiarpur, Bus Stand area , Civil Lines , Model Town , Sheikhupur , Lajwanti Hospital area , Urban Estate etc. TRAI also evaluated real-world conditions at Apeejay College Jalandhar , DAV College of Education Hoshiarpur , District and Sessions Court Hoshiarpur , District and Sessions Court Jalandhar , Jalandhar City Railway Station , Livasa Hospital Hoshiarpur , MBD Neopolis Mall Jalandhar , Model Town Market Jalandhar , Tagore Hospital Jalandhar.

The walk test conducted in Hoshiarpur city on 6th August 2025 focused on Kotwali Bazaar main market , establishing mobile network connectivity in a crowded pedestrian environment.

Highway routes from Jalandhar to Hoshiarpur via Kathar and Mandial and from Hoshiarpur to Jalandhar via Phagwara were also surveyed to assess the mobile network experience in high – speed transit.

These tests were conducted in real time using equipment and standardized protocols recommended by TRAI. The detailed report is available on TRAI’s website www.trai.gov.in. For any clarifications / information , Mr. Vivek Khare , Advisor ( Regional Office , Delhi ) , TRAI, can be contacted at email : adv.ca@trai.gov.in or phone number + 91-11-20907772 .
