April 22 (Reuters) – Rogers Communications on Wednesday posted first-quarter revenue slight above estimates, as the Canadian telecom company benefited from expanding its media and sports portfolio.
The wireless service provider reported first-quarter revenue of C$5.48 billion ($4.01 billion), compared with analysts’ average estimate of C$5.45 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Rogers’ media and sports portfolio has increasingly become a differentiating factor at a time when Canada’s telecom sector is grappling with an aggressive price war.
The company has invested heavily in premium live sports content, an area that has continued to draw strong audiences and advertising demand even as traditional media consumption declines.
Rogers added 28,000 monthly postpaid bill-paying wireless phone subscribers during the quarter.
