Car Explosion Near Delhi’s Red Fort Leaves 8 Dead, 30 Injured in Major Blast

New Delhi — A powerful car explosion rocked the area near the historic Red Fort in India’s capital on Monday evening, killing at least eight people and injuring more than 20 others, according to authorities. The blast occurred close to one of the gates of the Red Fort metro station, causing panic among commuters and residents in the vicinity.
Several vehicles parked nearby were engulfed in flames following the explosion, with thick plumes of smoke visible from several kilometers away. Firefighters and emergency response teams arrived swiftly at the scene, deploying multiple fire engines to douse the blaze and conduct rescue operations. Police cordoned off the area and diverted traffic from the busy road leading to the Red Fort, a popular tourist site and UNESCO World Heritage monument.
Sanjay Tyagi, spokesperson for the New Delhi Police, said investigators were examining the remains of the vehicle and surrounding area to determine the cause of the explosion. “Our forensic teams are on-site, and we are investigating all possible angles, including mechanical fault, gas leakage, or deliberate sabotage,” Tyagi told The Associated Press.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud bang around 6 p.m., followed by scenes of chaos as people fled the area. Several of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, where doctors described their condition as stable but critical in some cases. ANN INDIA
